Nelson County: 22-year-old woman dead after vehicle overturns into creek

A Virginia woman is dead after her vehicle crashed through multiple trees and then went down an embankment and overturned in Nelson County.

Shania F. Hawley, 22, of Gladstone, was found deceased is a nearby creek on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

Her vehicle appeared to have veered off the left side of the road, according to Virginia State Police.

The exact time of the crash is unknown. However, police believe it happened between 9 p.m. on July 13 and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Caravan, was not visible from Norwood Road and was found overturned in the nearby creek Sunday afternoon.

VSP is asking anyone who may have seen a Dodge Caravan on Norwood Road or has any information related to the crash to call (540) 444-7778 or email [email protected].

The crash remains under investigation.
