BC loses exhibition at D1 High Point

Bridgewater College tipped off its season Saturday evening with a 95-52 loss at Division I High Point University.

The Panthers jumped out to a quick 16-4 lead and pushed the margin to 19 points before a 10-0 run by the Eagles cut the margin to nine. High Point closed the first half with a 12-3 run to lead by 23 points, 46-23 at the break.

The Eagles had trouble finding the range from the floor against the taller Panthers and made just 25 percent of their shots on the night.

Cody Griffith was the lone BC player in double figures with 10 points and head coach Don Burgess played all 17 of his players in the first half of the exhibition contest.

A positive for the Eagles was a 48-46 margin on the boards. Daniel McClain led the Eagles with six rebounds.

Several freshmen had solid efforts in their first collegiate action. Aaron Adams finished the night with nine points and five rebounds and Kyle Welty also pulled down five boards. Ed Reddick finished with six points on 3-for-3 shooting and also grabbed three rebounds.

The Eagles tip their season off for real on Tuesday night when they host Averett University. Game time at Nininger Hall is 7 p.m.
