The Longwood University women’s lacrosse team won its third game in a row as they topped visiting National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) foe Detroit-Mercy 20-4 at the Athletics Complex in Farmville Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Jamie Brentlinger|Gambrills, Md. (Arundel) scored a game-high four goals, which also tied her season-high goals scored, on four shots and also collected three ground balls and one draw control.

In the win, Longwood (7-3, 3-0 NLC) tied its game-high goals scored – tallying 20 for the first time against St. Bonaventure on March 14 – and season-low goals allowed, doing so in its first two NLC games against Davidson on March 19 and then against Howard just two days ago on March 25. Senior Cara O’Brien|Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) scored the game-winner on a free position shot at 15:02 in the first half. She ended with two goals and two assists, continuing her team-leading goals scored (29) and points (35).

What started out as a close game in the first 10:49 with a slim 3-2 Longwood edge, turned into a runaway for the Lancers as a 12-goal run ensued with 18:47 on the clock in the first half, ending with 18:11 to be played in the game. The Titans would score two more times, the last goal coming at 8:36 to go, but they could never recover from the hefty deficit as freshman Lauren von Nordeck|Catonsville, Md. (Catonsville) finished things off, scoring her first collegiate goal, unassisted, with just 19 seconds remaining.

Senior Juli Liebig|Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne’s) and junior Alicia McCarty|Bel Air, Md. (Bel Air) split time in goal again, finishing with a combined three saves. McCarty played the last 20:09, a season- and career-high, while Liebig played the first 39:51, earning her seventh win of the season, thus tying her wins from the 2010 season with still six regular season games remaining.
