JMU’s Evans to be featured in Sports Illustrated

The accomplishments of James Madison University All-America senior guard Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) and her fight against the rare, incurable kidney disease FSGS continues to generate national headlines.

The Dukes’ basketball player will be featured in this week’s Sports Illustrated print edition. Earlier this year, she was the subject of a cover story in USA Today and in stories by Associated Press and NCAA.com.

An ambassador for The Nephcure Foundation (nephcure.org), Evans regularly visits with patient families and NephCure Foundation supporters after games. She provides inspiration in their fight against the kidney diseases Nephrotic Syndrome and FSGS, which is five times more prevalent among African Americans and the second-leading cause of kidney failure in children.

JMU (23-7, 16-2 CAA), the defending Colonial Athletic Association Tournament champion, enters this weekend’s CAA Tournament as the top seed. The Dukes open play in a noon quarterfinal game on Friday, March 11.
