River City Radio Hour set for Friday night

200_boogiekingsforweb2.jpgThere’s nothing to do in this town. I wish we had some form of entertainment. Do these phrases sound familiar? Teen-agers and even adults who are residents of Waynesboro commonly use these sentences. Maybe it’s because they aren’t aware of some of the great events that take place in our small town. One such event is the River City Radio Hour.

In the 1930s and ’40s, variety shows were widespread on radio stations. Clair Myers used this particular idea in order to start a live performance show that is in radio format. The show was primarily a concert when it first debuted in the April of last year. Now, it offers music and drama, and is great at entertaining its audience.

“I’ve always wanted a radio show and this gives me the chance to do it,” said Myers, the executive director of the Wayne Theatre Alliance.

The next show is the third installment to Elizabeth Massie’s “The Mystery of the Meandering Box.” This installment deals with four travelers who are trying to find their way back to the present.

The River City Radio Hour features The Boogie Kings, who perform at every show. Other featured performers include vocalist Tim Williams, magician John Coleman, and comedian Marsha Howard.

The show is a part of Third Fridays in Downtown Waynesboro, so don’t miss the chance to see it tomorrow night.

It is held at the Blue Ridge Christian Cafe and Music Hall at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Faryal Zubair is an Augusta Free Press intern.
