The Artisans Center of Virginia recently honored three Virginians for outstanding achievement by Virginia artisans, organizations or individuals who support and encourage the craft industry in the Commonwealth.

The 2010 ACV honorees were:

– Woody Crenshaw, Floyd, president of ‘Round the Mountain and Owner of Crenshaw Lighting. Crenshaw is a vital conduit for positive change, advancing Virginia’s craft industry. Crenshaw continues to be instrumental in developing the Artisan Trails of Southwest Virginia and is a voice for artisan entrepreneurs as important assets to the economic development of Virginia communities.

– Janice Arone, Charlottesville, a ceramic artisan and and co-owner of the Barnswallow Gallery. Arone serves as a trustee on the ACV board and has been instrumental in helping individual artisans find new ways to bring their work to market while working on a broad level to create programs statewide that perpetuate stability in the craft industry.

– Kevin Crowe, Amherst and Nelson County, a ceramic artisan and owner of Tye River Pottery. With thirty years of experience as a studio potter, Crowe conducts workshops throughout the United States on throwing large pots and on the design and construction of wood-fired kilns. Crowe’s apprentice program, focusing on the internal and external practice of his craft is of notable distinction as he dedicates himself to preparing the next generation of entrepreneurial artisans.
