AFP

Tarron RichardsonCharlottesville City Council has named Dr. Tarron Richardson as the next City Manager of Charlottesville, a position he will assume May 13th.

Dr. Richardson is coming from the City of DeSoto, Texas where he has served as City Manager since 2011. His prior experience also includes several senior roles with the City of Richmond. Dr. Richardson received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lincoln University, a Master of Education degree from Temple University, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Council’s hiring of Dr. Richardson follows a comprehensive interview process which included direct and indirect engagement of staff, community stakeholders, and the broader public starting last fall. “As this process evolved it became more and more clear that Dr. Richardson was the right person to lead the City of Charlottesville at this important time for our community,” said Heather Hill, Vice Mayor. “His approach will have him in City employees’ offices and our neighborhoods, getting to know staff and residents directly, while fostering a culture of service to our community.”

“I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who was involved in the interview process for giving me the opportunity to serve as your City Manager,” said Richardson. “I am truly honored and looking forward to working in collaboration with the City Council, staff, and members of the community for the betterment of Charlottesville.”

Council wants to thank the senior management team, led by Interim City Manager Mike Murphy, for their continued leadership and commitment during this time of transition. We look forward to partnering with staff and Dr. Richardson in the months ahead as this transition continues.

A press conference to introduce Dr. Richardson is planned for noon on Monday, April 15th in City Council Chambers.
