Rep. McEachin joins Democratic colleagues in opposing proposal to arm teachers

Donald McEachinCongressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) joined 172 other House Democrats in sending a letter to Secretary Betsy DeVos expressing opposition to using taxpayers’ dollars to arm teachers with guns.

“I firmly stand against using public funds to purchase guns for our nation’s teachers,” said Congressman Donald McEachin. “Syphoning funds away from critical priorities such as mental health treatment, anti-bullying programs, drug prevention, and other important services that help create a healthier school environment is nothing less than irresponsible, short-sighted, and dangerous.”

This letter was sent to Secretary Betsy DeVos following reports that the Trump Administration was considering the use of ESEA Title IV-A funds to purchase firearms or firearms training for school staff. A copy of the letter is available here.
