Sierra Club endorses Sen. Tim Kaine for re-election

AFP

tim kaineThe Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Sen. Tim Kaine for re-election to the United States Senate today.

“Sen. Kaine’s record of standing up to this administration’s reckless attacks on Virginia’s environment speaks volumes,” said Corrina Beall, Legislative and Political Director for the Virginia chapter of the Sierra Club. “The senator has proven time and again that he is a climate champion.”

The Sierra Club has previously endorsed Sen. Kaine for election to the Senate in 2012 and for Vice President in 2016.

“Tim Kaine is the only candidate in this race who will protect Virginians’ right to clean air and water,” said Bob Shippee, Political Chair of the Virginia chapter of the Sierra Club. “Tim Kaine has shown, throughout his career, from Richmond City Council to the U.S. Senate, a commitment to protect Virginia’s resources for future generations. His staunch support in the Senate has helped shield our environment from Donald Trump and Scott Pruitt’s attacks.”

Recently, the senator has voiced his objections to how a rushed process by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission led to hasty approvals of the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley pipelines and called for both projects to be reheard by the body.

“Sen. Kaine is a great friend to the planet, with unyielding support for commonsense environmental safeguards like the Clean Power Plan and opposition to reckless plans for offshore drilling operations off Virginia’s coast,” said Kate Addleson, Director of the Sierra Club Virginia chapter. “He has been a fantastic steward to Virginia’s environment during his time in the Senate, and we look forward to his continued commitment to Virginia’s clean energy economy in his next term.”

In addition to the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to the senator’s campaign.
