Beverage takes win in four-way Waynesboro treasurer race

AFP

Stephanie Beverage avenged a loss at the polls four years ago to Sandee Dixon to win the city-treasurer job in Waynesboro.

The rematch from 2005 had become a heated four-way race with the entree of two write-in candidates toward the end of the campaign. Write-ins Jim Serba and Terry Kent combined to receive 1,383 votes, or 31.2 percent of the votes cast overall.

Beverage received 1,867 votes, or 42.1 percent, to defeat Dixon, who received 1,180 votes, or 26.6 percent.

Dixon had come under fire after a story in the September edition of The New Dominion Magazine detailed a string of negative local and state audits that criticized her management of the office.
