Virginia sophomore Kyle Guy named to AP All-America third team

kyle guy uva basketballVirginia sophomore guard Kyle Guy (Indianapolis, Ind.) was named to the Associated Press (AP) All-America Third Team, announced late Tuesday (March 27).

Guy, who earned All-ACC First Team and ACC Tournament MVP honors, averaged a team-high 14.1 points for the Cavaliers (31-3). Guy averaged 16.7 points as UVA captured its third ACC Tournament title. He reached double-figures in 28 games, including a career-high 29 against VCU, and led Virginia in scoring in 15 contests. Guy added 83 3-pointers and shot 82.4 percent from the free throw line.

Guy is the 10th Virginia player to earn All-America honors, joining Malcolm Brogdon (2015-16), Justin Anderson (2016), Mike Scott (2012), Sean Singletary (2007), Ralph Sampson (1980-83), Jeff Lamp (1980-81), Barry Parkhill (1972-73), Buzzy Wilkinson (1955) and William Strickling (1915). Guy was also named to the NABC All-America Third Team on March 21.

Joining Guy on the AP All-America third team are Keenan Evans (Texas Tech), Carsen Edwards (Purdue), Mikal Bridges (Villanova) and Luke Maye (North Carolina).

Jalen Brunson (Villanova), Marvin Bagley III (Duke), Deandre Ayton (Arizona), Devonte’ Graham (Kansas) and Trae Young (Oklahoma) were named to the AP All-America first team.

Keita Bates-Diop (Ohio State), Trevon Bluiett (Xavier), Jock Landale (Saint Mary’s), Miles Bridges (Michigan State) and Jevon Carter (West Virginia) were named to the AP All-America second team.
