virginia soccerThe UVA men’s soccer team defeated Longwood, 3-0, Saturday evening in exhibition action at Klöckner Stadium. Paddy Foss (Sr., South Riding, Va.), Simeon Okoro (So., Weston, Conn.) and Jarren Nixon Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.) each scored for the Cavaliers.

The contest marked the first of three home friendlies for the Cavaliers in an eight-day span in preparation for the regular season. Ranked 17th nationally in the preseason NSCAA poll, UVA also entertains Liberty on Tuesday (Aug. 17) and No. 10 Georgetown on Saturday, Aug. 20. Admission is free for the exhibition games.

The Cavaliers held a decisive edge in shots (18-9), shots on goal (13-1) and corner kicks (9-4). The teams played 120 total minutes to give more players the opportunity to see time on the field.

Virginia scored in the 12th minute when Victor Falck (Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) sent a short pass across the box to find Foss, who ripped a low shot from 12 yards out which went through the legs of Carlos Canas for the score.

The Cavaliers added a goal in the 99th minute when Raheem Taylor-Parkes (Fr., Tampa, Fla.) found an opening down the right flank and sent a beautiful cross deep into the six-yard box to Okoro, who easily tapped the ball home for the score.

Jarren Nixon Jr. scored five minutes later, taking a Longwood turnover in its own third of the field and streaking straight toward the goal, where he slipped a shot past the keeper.

Virginia kicks off its regular-season schedule on Friday, Aug. 26, at home against No. 21 Coastal Carolina.
