New poll: Clinton leads Trump big in Virginia

2016 presidentA new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll of Virginia voters has Hillary Clinton opening up a double-digit lead on Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential race.

Clinton is at 46 percent to Trump’s 33 percent in polling on a straight-up two-way race. Expanding the question out to include Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Clinton is at 43 percent, Trump at 31 percent, Johnson at 12 percent, and Stein at 5 percent.

Looking inside the numbers, it’s clearly more a sign that Virginia voters dislike Trump more, as opposed to the gap in favor of Clinton signaling overwhelming support for the former Secretary of State.

Clinton is under water in favorability – with 38 pecent of voters having a favorable view of her, and 56 percent having an unfavorable view.

Trump, for his part, is pestilence and famine – with 29 percent of voters having a favorable view, and 66 percent having an unfavorable view.

Clinton running mate Tim Kaine, a U.S. senator representing Virginia who is a former state governor and former mayor of the capital city, Richmond, has a solid plus favorability – with 54 percent of voters expressing a favorable view, and 32 percent holding an unfavorable view.

Trump running mate Mike Pence, the sitting governor of Indiana and a former GOP congressman, is slightly above water – with 37 percent of voters having a favorable view, and 33 percent having an unfavorable view.

President Obama has favorability more in line with Kaine, with 52 percent of voters having a favorable view and 42 percent having an unfavorable view.
