Letter: Dawbarn Education Awards unique, innovative

community-foundationThe Community Foundation takes tremendous pride in presenting the Dawbarn Education Awards each year.  When Buz Dawbarn established this fund with our organization in 1992, he recognized it as his opportunity to elevate the education of youth in our community by rewarding those individuals who, through their extraordinary efforts to inspire and foster education, set the standard to which we should all aspire.  Today, this awards program remains unique in America.  It is a standard to which other communities should aspire.  In fact, leaders in other communities have contacted us at the Community Foundation to learn more about the Dawbarn Education Awards in hopes of replicating this program.  We are very grateful that Buz Dawbarn created this opportunity, and that the residents of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County submitted a near record number of nominations for the 2015 awards.

– Letter from Dan Layman, CEO, Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge
