Starting up a small business can be an exciting and daunting experience – the idea of working for yourself and earning sounds fantastic. But, there’s a lot to think about and a lot of planning involved. Some may ask if it’s really worth it.

Well, we think it is. We have a few ideas that we believe are great little businesses for you to to run from your own home. And they aren’t so tough to manage.

Photography and Videography

Most of us enjoy taking photos or making videos when we’re out and about. And some of us are better than others. If you have a hidden talent in this area, it’s well worth considering it as a side business or even career.

Everyone wants to remember special events, and being a newborn photographer or wedding videographer can earn you a lot from a single shoot. This can be a hobby to begin with, but you can soon build up a portfolio. You can also turn it into a second job that you run all by yourself.

Tutoring

If you see yourself as an expert in a particular field or subject, maybe it’s worth looking into tutoring. This is something else that might start out small but could quickly turn into a full-time job once word gets around about your talents.

A lot of students that are taking exams need help with math or language skills, and they are willing to pay good money for it. Once you build up your reputation, you’ll be so busy that you may even have to turn people away.

Catering

We love this option for those who like to cater for family and friends. You just have to take it up a notch and start thinking about planning for larger events. If you are great at putting together a spread for a party, then this could be the job for you.

It can start out at weekends doing weddings and parties, but you could soon be called up any day of the week for work events. Catering isn’t cheap, and people understand the hard work it takes to put it together. You could be saving up fast if you choose to go down this path.

Landscaping and Gardening

This is another one that can turn from just a hobby to a raving business. Nowadays, people want their gardens to look good. Whether it be out front or back, it’s a big part of a home. Landscaping has become very popular over the last decade, and people want a beautiful garden to unwind in.

Not a lot of us are eager to get out there and get our hands dirty, however. So, if gardening in your spare time is something you love, why not start out offering your services to others? Once they see you do a superb job, others will want to hire you. And your business is off!

We All Have the Potential

There are hundreds of options out there to choose from. We hope we’ve helped you to see that turning something you’re passionate about into a career isn’t as tricky as you first thought. You can start out slowly and see where it takes you. So, go out and be your own boss. Good luck!
