Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club swimmer Remedy Rule finished sixth in the 200-meter butterfly final in the USA Swimming Junior Nationals at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., on Monday.

Rule, 14, swimming for the Waynesboro YMCA team, finished with a time of 2:12.92, 1.40 seconds behind national champion Courtney Weaver of Flint, Mich.

Rule’s time broke a Virginia state 14-and-under record for the event and is the 12th-fastest time ever for a 14-year-old swimmer.

Rule also was within the qualifying time for the 2012 U.S. Olympic trials in the 200-meter butterfly. She had already qualified for the trials and a chance to compete in the 2012 London Olympics earlier in the summer.
