Virginia Military Institute head basketball coach Duggar Baucom will soon depart on an overseas trip to visit U.S. military bases over a period of 10 days during the month of August.

Baucom will be accompanied by other basketball coaches on the trip that is intended to lift the spirit of the troops and help with morale during this difficult time as combat operations are ongoing. Also scheduled on the trip are Agnus Berento, the women’s head basketball coach at Pittsburgh, Billy Kennedy, head men’s coach Murray State, and Orlando Early, head men’s coach of Louisiana-Monroe.

“It is a huge honor to participate in this trip. I am thankful everyday for what the men and women in our military are doing for us abroad,” said Baucom. “I feel very fortunate to be able to thank them face-to-face. I look forward to seeing some VMI alumni. It is going to be an experience of a lifetime.”

For security reasons, Baucom cannot divulge exactly the locations of his itinerary at this time, only to say that he’ll be visiting U.S. troops in the Middle East or Southeast Asia.

Baucom will be providing updates on his trip on twitter.com at duggarvmihoops. Upon his return, vmikeydets.com will also do a follow-up on the sojourn.
