UVa., VCU, Norfolk State make NCAA field

Virginia will play in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years. The ‘Hoos (22-9) earned the #10 seed in the West Regional and will square off with the #7 seed Florida (23-10) in a second-round game in Omaha, Neb., on Friday.

The winner of that game gets the winner of the matchup between #2 seed Missouri (30-4) and #15 seed Norfolk State (25-9).

UVa. and Florida had two common opponents in the 2011-2012 regular season – Florida State and LSU. Florida beat Florida State 82-64 at home on Dec. 22 and beat LSU 76-64 at home on Jan. 21. Virginia beat LSU on the road 57-52 on Jan. 2 and lost twice to FSU – 58-55 on the road on Feb. 4 and 63-60 at home on March 1.

The Cavs were one of five teams from the ACC to get invites to the Big Dance. North Carolina (29-5) is the #1 seed in the Midwest Region. Duke (27-6) is the #2 seed in the South Region. Florida State (24-9) is the #3 seed in the East Region. NC State (22-12) is the #11 seed in the Midwest Region.

2011 Final Four darling VCU (28-6) made the 2012 tournament as the #12 seed in the South Region and will play #5 seed Wichita State (27-5) in the second round.
