Boston College led by as many as 20 points in the second half and held on to defeat a sluggish Virginia Tech 76-61 in Blacksburg Tuesday.
The win gives BC (18-11, 8-7 ACC) a sweep of the season series with Tech and boosts the Eagles NCAA Tourament hopes. The loss similarly puts a black mark on the tournament resume of Virginia Tech (19-9, 9-6 ACC), which just three days ago seemed to have played its win into the NCAAs with a dramatic win over then-#1 Duke.
The Hokies had trouble keeping in this one from the outset. Boston College raced out to an early 27-10 lead before Tech rallied with a 17-8 run to cut its deficit to 35-27 at the halftime break. An Erick Green three made it 38-33 with 18:47 to go, but then BC took control with an extended 25-10 run that left the Eagles up 20 at the 7:35 mark.
Green led all scorers with 21 points. Reggie Jackson scored 20 to lead Boston College.
