Shenandoah University invites business leaders to 11th annual Business Symposium

shenandoah universityOne of the top leadership speakers in the world will join an international whistling champion as the two keynote speakers at Shenandoah University’s 11th Annual Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business Business Symposium.

The event takes place on March 29 in Halpin-Harrison Hall, Stimpson Auditorium on main campus in. Registration runs from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The event concludes at 4:30 p.m. First Bank is the main title sponsor for the symposium.

Entrepreneur and author Marilyn Tam, Ph.D., speaks from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. Dr. Tam is the former chief executive officer of the cosmetic company Aveda, former president of Reebok Apparel and Retail Group, and former vice president of Nike Inc. Tam is the chief executive officer of Marilyn Tam & Company, an international speaking and consulting company dedicated to supporting companies and nonprofit and governmental organizations on achieving their mission and goals. She is also the founder and executive director of the Us Foundation, a global nonprofit organization devoted to youth issues, education, the environment and conditions for peace.

Tam is known as one of the top 100 leadership speakers in the world by Inc. magazine. She encourages others to pursue their dreams despite enduring countless hardships. Tam is a contributing writer to Huffington Post, and her latest book is “The Happiness Choice.”

Breakout sessions, networking opportunities and lunch will be held after Tam’s keynote address.

Chris Ullman, known as The Happy Whistler, delivers the afternoon address from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Ullman is a four-time international whistling champion, an inspirational speaker and the author of the book “Find Your Whistle.” He has performed in the White House for President George W. Bush and has whistled the National Anthem at major sporting events nationwide. Ullman has appeared on The Tonight Show, the Today show, CNN, NPR and CNBC and has been featured in The New York Times, People magazine, The Washington Post and Time magazine. Ullman is one of the foremost corporate communications executives in America, serving as director of global communications at The Carlyle Group, an investment firm based in Washington, D.C.

Breakout and networking sessions follow his presentation.

The Business Symposium provides networking opportunities, education and inspiration for business leaders in Northern Virginia and the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Breakout sessions focus on a wide slate of business topics, from creating a learning culture at any kind of business and fostering positive company cultures, to encouraging financial wellness as a company benefit, engaging your workforce with purpose, leading with an entrepreneurial mindset, and more.

Regular admission is $95. Walk-ins are $110 per person. Group rates are three people at $75 each. Students can attend for free.
