Hank Houston of Spotsylvania County grew the largest entry in this year’s Giant Pumpkin Contest at the State Fair of Virginia; his pumpkin weighed 1,203.2 pounds. The previous record, set in 2007, was 1,138 pounds for a pumpkin grown by William Layton of Nelson County.

Junior Matthew Pisarcik connected with Jacob Wright on a 47-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and the Bridgewater defense had two fourth-down stops over the final four minutes of play as the Eagles defeated Shenandoah by a 27-23 tally in a Saturday night slugfest.
