A Harrisonburg man is in custody on murder charges following a Monday-night shooting in Grottoes that left a woman dead. John Franklin Myers, 44, of 3210 S. Main St., is being charged with first-degree murder and two related charges in the shooting death of Virginia Lynn Ware, 30, of 9712 Cloverdale Lane, Grottoes.

Attorney-general candidate Steve Shannon today launched a website providing parents with tips to protect their children from sexual predators, including learning the secret codes that kids use when speaking to those predators on the Internet. The website, www.ProtectVAKids.com, follows his announcement last month of a comprehensive plan to keep Virginia’s children safe online.

Creigh Deeds’ campaign for governor released a new TV ad Tuesday morning that is currently airing on broadcast television in Northern Virginia.
