Small business owners concerned about fiscal cliff

Tom Perriello, a former congressman from Virginia and current CEO of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, joined national small business advocacy organization Small Business Majority and a local small business owner on a tele-press conference call to discuss the “fiscal cliff” and how it might affect entrepreneurs and the middle class—a category virtually all their customers and 97 percent of small business owners fall into.

Following a winning season with a 25-6 record, the women’s volleyball coach at Virginia Commonwealth University – Coach James Finley – was terminated with no warning after taking the team to the most successful record in 20 years at VCU and after graduating every senior on the team. A possible reason for the firing? James Finley is openly gay.

New technique can identify role of proteins with unknown function

An ingenious new technique is making it quicker and easier for scientists to identify the function of uncharacterized proteins in cells. The method, developed by researchers primarily from the Wladek Minor laboratory at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, already is being used to solve some of the most stubborn mysteries of cellular function.
