The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has issued a record of decision on the 25-mile Tier 1 environmental impact statement (EIS) study of Interstate 66 from the Capital Beltway to Haymarket, clearing the way for the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) to select one or more of the final ten concepts for detailed analysis.

Hydraulic fracturing (known as “fracking”) is a method of causing fissures in underground shale rock formations to facilitate the extraction of otherwise inaccessible natural gas and oil. In a typical fracking operation, drillers inject a mixture of pressurized water and chemicals underground to fracture the rock and free up the gas and oil.

The top-seeded Virginia women’s soccer team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Georgetown Friday night in front of 1,988 fans at Klöckner Stadium. Junior midfielder Morgan Brian’s goal in the 33rd minute was all the Cavs needed to reach the round of the 16 for the ninth consecutive season.

Chris Graham: No dishonor if Mark Obenshain contests AG race

I’ll take friendly issue here with my friend and colleague Andy Schmookler for his recent column on the still too-close-to-call Virginia attorney general race (“Andy Schmookler: I’m betting on Mark Obenshain acting honorably,” Nov. 21 AFP). I don’t see any dishonor if Obenshain decides after a recount to contest the result in the Virginia General Assembly.
