Virginia makes it hard for governors already by only letting them serve one four-year term. Then we make it harder for them by only letting them submit one budget. Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe announced additional appointments to his administration today, including the appointment of Carlos Hopkins as Counsel to the Governor and additional appointments to the Governor’s Office and Cabinet. The appointees will join McAuliffe’s administration focused on finding common ground with members of both parties on issues that will grow Virginia’s economy and create more jobs across the Commonwealth.

Motorists rang in 2014 paying the highest price for gasoline on record for New Year’s Day ($3.32), marking the fifth consecutive January 1 that Americans have paid more at the pump than the year prior and the fourth straight year with a new record to start the year.

The George Mason men’s basketball team erased a 13-point deficit and cut the score to a one possession ballgame within the final minute of play, but could not pull out a win as Old Dominion survived a 71-66 victory Saturday night in the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Mason finished non-conference play with a 7-7 record. ODU improved to 6-9.

Despite never trailing in Friday’s non-conference game against Virginia University of Lynchburg, the Runnin Royals were happy just to get out with the win, taking a 78-70 decision in Yoder Arena. EMU improves to 6-4 on the year in advance of their final non-ODAC game Monday night against Goucher.
