Governor McAuliffe issues gag order to state agencies on natural gas pipelines

On Tuesday, The Roanoke Times reported that the decision to share pipeline comments with the governor’s office before making them public was one outcome of an Oct. 28 meeting in Richmond that included representatives from 13 state agencies involved in the permitting process or mitigation efforts for the proposed pipelines. The Times reported the purpose of coordinating with the Governor’s office was to “ensure that state agencies will speak about the pipeline projects in the same way.”

VMI baseball announces 2016 schedule

The VMI Keydets announced their 2016 baseball schedule Thursday, a 55-game slate that will open with four games in Winston-Salem, N.C. the weekend of Feb. 19. The slate features 2015 regional qualifiers in Radford, Mercer, VCU and defending national champion Virginia, as well as in-state opponents Old Dominion, Longwood, Richmond, Virginia Tech and James Madison.

Tim Martin unseats Lee Ervin in Augusta County Commonwealth attorney race

Republican challenger Tim Martin upset long-time incumbent Augusta County Commonwealth attorney Lee Ervin in Tuesday’s general election. Martin, a deputy Commonwealth’s attorney in Staunton, received 62.6 percent of the vote in the two-way race. Ervin, who served as Commonwealth’s attorney in Augusta County for 33 years, lost by 4,376 votes.
