U.S. Sen. Mark Warner didn’t rule out a run for governor in 2013 in an interview with NBC12 in Richmond on Friday. Asked by “First at 4” anchor Ryan Nobles to address speculation that he is considering a run for governor next year, Warner conceded that “it’s no news flash that sometimes the Senate frustrates me.”

President Barack Obama (46 percent) clings to a 2-point lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney (44 percent), in a swing-state nail-biter, according to a Suffolk University/NBC12 (WWBT-Richmond) poll of likely general-election voters in Virginia. Seven percent were undecided.

The James Madison women’s basketball schedule for the 2012-13 season includes a season-opener against Virginia and a trip to Mexico for the Cancun Challenge. The Dukes will begin the season on Nov. 9 in Charlottesville, Va., against the Cavaliers in a re-match from last year’s Women’s National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals.

Local Republicans have been working on gettting a member of the Republican national ticket for four years. When then-candidate Barack Obama came to Harrisonburg in October 2008, Suzanne Obenshain vowed to bring a Republican to the area for the 2012 election. She made calls to anyone who would listen, and worked with the Republican Party of Virginia. In the spring, local Republicans contacted the Mitt Romney campaign to make sure that someone on the ticket would come to the Valley. The hard work paid off Friday when Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan spoke at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.

Michael Rocco’s third fumbled snap in three games pushed UVa. head coach Mike London. “At that point in time, right after the mucked snap, I just wanted him to get on the sideline and look at the game a little bit,” said London, explaining his decision to sit his starting quarterback for two series spanning the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth quarter Saturday at home against Penn State.
