JMU completes sweep of Hofstra

Powered by a grand slam from sophomore shortstop Tyler Duke(Troutville, Va./James River) and solid hitting from the entire lineup, the James Madison baseball team defeated Hofstra 10-6 to complete the three-game sweep and open conference play undefeated. The Dukes moved to 9-6 on the season while the Pride fell to 3-11.

UVa. baseball drops season finale to Maryland, 4-2

The No. 17th-ranked Virginia baseball team lost its first game of the 2013 season Sunday, falling 4-2 to Maryland at Davenport Field. While the Cavaliers (14-1, 2-1 ACC) had their 14-game win streak snapped, they still claimed the series after sweeping a doubleheader Saturday. UVa’s 14-0 run to open the year was the second-best start to a season in program history (19-0 in 2009).

Virginia agricultural exports reach all-time high in 2012

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced today that agricultural exports from Virginia reached a new all-time high of $2.61 billion in 2012, shattering the previous record set last year by almost 12 percent. The governor’s announcement came during his keynote remarks at the fifth annual Governor’s Conference on Agricultural Trade in Richmond. The conference runs through Friday.

That is, if you are willing to call the oddest collection of taxes and revenue transfers ever attempted since 1619 “progress.” I call it the biggest shell game to ever come out of Richmond.
