On the one hand, there’s the Augusta County Board of Supervisors, and its shortsighted, short-term-focused approach to public education, which seems to assume that there is no tomorrow, and that today is 1988. On the other is the Augusta County School Board, which is looking to an unexpected source to lay a blueprint for the future of public education.

Del. Dickie Bell to represent Virginia at regional education conference

Del. Dickie Bell announced today that he has been chosen by the Speaker of the House of Delegates, Bill Howell, to represent the Commonwealth at the Southern Regional Education Board’s Annual Legislative Work Conference. Additionally, Speaker Howell appointed him to the National Governors’ Association Center for Best Practices Three Branch Institute on “Child Social and Emotional Well- Being.”

Smart Beginnings gets $75K education grant

Smart Beginnings Shenandoah Valley, a local school-readiness initiative that works to improve the quality of early childhood care and learning in the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro, as well as in Augusta, Page, Rockingham and Shenandoah counties, has received a grant of $75,000 from the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF), a public-private partnership headquartered in Richmond, Va.
