The University of Virginia improved to the number two spot in “best value in public colleges” in the annual Kiplinger ranking of the top 100 schools. Other Virginia schools ranked in the top 100 include the College of William and Mary (4), James Madison University (20), Virginia Tech (28), University of Mary Washington (53), George Mason University (56) and Christopher Newport University (87).

Junior Sherrod Wright sank a 3-pointer from the top of the key as the final horn expired, lifting the George Mason men’s basketball team to a 67-64 victory over the University of Richmond Saturday afternoon. Mason (7-4), which did not lead until the final 1:34 of the contest, captured the victory in the opening game of the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic at Richmond Coliseum, while the Spiders dropped to 9-4.

I fell in love with Highland County the first time my husband brought me here to visit some of his friends. This rural, mountain area takes me back to my roots in Oklahoma. My family came to Tidewater, Virginia when I was a child, but each summer, we headed west to my grandparents farm.

The Eastern Mennonite men closed their first half of the season with a solid win Wednesday night, beating Mary Washington 79-71 in non-conference action. The Runnin Royals built a big lead early and then held off UMW to enter the break with an 8-4 record.

A host of the River City Radio Hour’s celebrities return to WTA’s Gateway stage for the December Radio Hour on Friday, December 21 at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro. The Eastern Mennonite men’s basketball team snapped a two-game losing skid Saturday afternoon, taking apart Maryland Bible College 112-61 at the Don Glick Classic in Bridgewater. All 16 Royals in uniform played in the contest with 14 of the men getting into the scoring column.
