VDOT crews in the Shenandoah Valley have begun around-the-clock staffing for the winter storm that is expected to bring icy conditions through early Monday. Anti-icing operations took place Saturday throughout the Staunton District with a focus on interstates and primary roads, as well as some high-traffic secondary routes.

Before the weather gets frightful, Virginia Department of Transportation crews in the Shenandoah Valley are preparing roads and resources for the forecasted snow and ice event on Sunday and early Monday.

The Virginia Department of Transportation advises drivers to use caution when traveling Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, as temperatures may fall and cause icy patches. VDOT Staunton District crews and contractors have been monitoring road conditions and applying chemicals where needed.

VDOT will open Route 727 (Airport Road) in Rockingham County on Friday. Contractors from Fairfield-Echols LLC of Fishersville have substantially completed the project just west of Route 11 at Mount Crawford. The work included construction of a new bridge over the North River and realigning part of the road to eliminate two sharp curves.
