Snowplows and sunshine are working together to gradually improve road conditions Friday morning in the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands.

Snow is forecast to fall throughout the region during the night. Travel is not advised during the snowstorm, which may bring 3 to 5 inches to the area.

Interstate 95 northbound and southbound in Virginia is open after being closed for emergency response for most of Tuesday.

Interstate 95 is closed northbound and southbound for a nearly 50-mile stretch in Northern Virginia as crews continue work to remove stopped trucks, treat for icing and plow snow.

Through 8:30 p.m., Virginia State Police emergency communications centers across the state have fielded more than 2,600 total calls for service.

VDOT crews are working on Interstate 64 east of Charlottesville to remove large trees that are blocking the highway. The fallen trees are preventing snowplows from clearing the interstate from Exit 124 at Pantops through Goochland County.

Virginia State Police responded to Route 29 in Nelson County at 9:30 a.m. Monday as more than a dozen tractor-trailers were stuck in the snow and/or involved in a minor crash.

As snow, sleet and rain continue to fall across various regions of Virginia today, Virginia State Police troopers continue to respond to traffic crashes and disabled vehicles caused by motorists driving too fast for conditions.
