The first group came to dig, and dig they did! Twenty-five 40-pound bags of soil were spread on the side yard at Staunton Senior Center.

Staunton Senior Center Director Lynn Harris received great news as she shopped for supplies for volunteers to use during Day of Caring on Sept. 11.

The Staunton Creative Community Fund is seeking a part-time Client Services Coordinator. The position will be for 15-20 hours per week. The position will be responsible for a variety of administrative and program development tasks

Twenty-five years ago tragedy struck the Harrisonburg community with the death of Shirley Collins. In the aftermath of that act of sexual violence, a dynamic group of people came together to create CASA-Citizens Against Sexual Assault, which is now called the Collins Center. This growing non-profit, located in downtown Harrisonburg, models and promotes the prevention of child sexual abuse, and provides excellence in sexual assault response and treatment in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

East Rockingham Senior Center, operated by Valley Program for Aging Services, Inc., located at 20593 Blue and Gold Drive, Elkton, announces the following programs for May.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program operated by the Community Action Partnership of Staunton, Augusta and Waynesboro expanded services this year and with the help of over two dozen volunteers filed just over 250 federal and state returns. This service saved area consumers approximately $50,800 based on the average cost of $200 a return at a commercial preparation site.

Through the generosity of local businesses, individuals and several groups of volunteers, Price Rotary Senior Center now has a new, fresh and welcoming look!

Local residents can receive valuable help at tax time this spring from CAPSAW’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or Valley VITA program.

LEARN (Learn English and Reading Now), the nonprofit organization that provides free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring for adults in basic reading and writing – and in English for Speakers of Other Languages – in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County, is seeking volunteer tutors to participate in its next training session on Saturday, March 16, from 9:00 am-4:00 pm at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship located at 565 Pine Avenue in Waynesboro.
