The top seven teams remain unchanged in this week’s FCS Coaches poll. North Dakota State (No.1), Montana State (No.2), Old Dominion (No.4), Wofford (No.5), and Eastern Washington (No.7) went a combined 5-0 over the weekend, while Youngstown State (No.3) and James Madison (No.6) held their spots after being idle last weekend.

It would seem at first glance that the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan event scheduled for Thursday at Augusta Expoland in Fishersville would be so much overkill given the recent voting history in Greater Augusta. Barack Obama, en route to winning Virginia in the 2008 presidential election, was roundly trounced in Greater Augusta (Augusta County and the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro) by Republican nominee John McCain. McCain won the region with 62 percent of the vote, with Obama trailing far behind with 37 percent.

Old Dominion improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play on Saturday with a 45-37 victory over the Richmond Spiders at Robins Stadium. Seven different Monarchs got the nation’s No. 1 scoring offense into the scoring mix as Old Dominion led by as many as 28 points entering the fourth quarter. Although the Spiders managed to score 20 points in the span of 3:21 in the fourth quarter to cut their deficit to eight, Old Dominion methodically wound down the clock over the game’s final six minutes and 40 seconds for the win.

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Gypsy Hill Park will be the site of Walk on Satuday, Sept. 29 at 8 a.m.
