The Hillcats beat the Frederick Keys 6-1 tonight behind an outstanding performance from starter Greg Ross. He threw seven scoreless innings, and retired the last five batters he faced. Elmer Reyes broke the game open in the sixth inning with a three-run triple, leading the Hillcats to a series opening victory.

Richmond shuts out Akron, 2-0

Left-hander Edwin Escobar turned in his finest performance in the Eastern League, leading the Richmond Flying Squirrels (50-58) to a 2-0 win over the Akron Aeros (53-55) on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. The Squirrels salvaged a split of the four-game series as Escobar turned in 7 1/3 shutout innings for the win.

Since sea level measurements were first recorded, in 1870, global averages have risen almost eight inches. The annual rate of rise has been 0.13 inches over the past 20 years, which is close to twice the average from the previous 80 years. Future estimates for sea levels vary according to region but most Earth scientists agree that sea levels are expected to rise at a greater pace than during the last 50 years.
