AAA: Gas prices hold steady, expected to drop through June

Gas prices have remained steady throughout the Mid-Atlantic region since the Memorial Day holiday weekend, even showing some slight declines in some areas. The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline saw a two-cent increase this week to $3.63 Friday. This price is nine cents higher than one month ago and seven cents higher than the same date last year.

I-64 Afton Mountain closures end

Stabilization of the Afton Mountain slope above Interstate 64 has progressed to the point where closures of I-64 are no longer necessary. The final closure was completed just before noon today. Engineers with the Virginia Department of Transportation determined that the remaining soil can safely be removed without restricting traffic.

Root (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) tossed five scoreless innings while junior Tyler Gregory (Dothan, Ala./Houston Academy) and senior Casey Goss (Springfield, Mo./Glenville) each homered with a combined nine RBIs as James Madison topped Liberty 13-4 in its final regular season home game at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park on Tuesday.

Eight-run eighth pushes JMU over George Washington

Senior right fielder Cole McInturff (Centreville, Va./Westfield) and junior second baseman Conner Brown (Richmond, Va/Godwin) combined for nine RBIs, including three apiece as part of an eight-run eighth inning, as James Madison pulled away from George Washington for a 14-5 non-conference baseball win on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.

Stuart Hall to honor fallen alums

Stuart Hall School will begin its Alumnae/i Weekend with a special wreath laying memorial service to honor former students and faculty who have died. Of special mention will be Renee Smith Gatling, Class of 1973, the first African American student to graduate from the School, and Lance Cpl. Jason C. Redifer, Class of 2003, one of the first males to attend the Upper School at Stuart Hall.
