afp_wvptDownton Abbey, the most-watched drama series in the history of PBS, will now be even more memorable for WVPT, its viewers and one lucky Virginia resident. WVPT/PBS is holding a raffle for “The Spirit of Downton Abbey Tour”—a $5,400 value—which the winner and one companion will experience in England September 1-7.
Through May 23, Virginia residents ages 18 and older may purchase raffle tickets for $51 online in conjunction with WVPT’sSpring Auction, by phone, mail or visiting the WVPT studios weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Only 1,500 raffle tickets will be sold. The announcement of the winner will be broadcast May 25 on WVPT.
“We have had great success with free screenings and other Downton Abbey related activities,” said WVPT President and General Manager David Mullins. “This raffle is a very fun way to extend the excitement of the series, as we all anticipate the fourth season of the award-winning series on PBS.”
“The Spirit of Downton Abbey Tour” is a one-of-a-kind trip to experience the backdrop and setting of PBS’s most popular series ever.  The winner will walk in the shadows of the Crawley family while touring Highclere Castle, the village and more.
Trip highlights include:
  • Explore Highclere Castle and the village featured in the Downton Abbey series.
  • Delve into mysteries of the “Downstairs” world and experience the powerful role of the butler.
  • Learn how to successfully navigate afternoon tea and high society from British masters of etiquette.
  • Discover Downton Abbey fashion secrets behind the scenes with one of the show’s costumiers.
  • Tour the setting for the latest Masterpiece mini-series, Mr. Selfridge.

Access to Highclere Castle is sold out for 2013, so this trip is the only way to tour the setting for Downton Abbey this year.

Tune in May 25 at 7 p.m. on the following channels to view the announcement of the raffle winner
