Kate Adamson as Stanley AnnWTA’s Gateway is proud to host a second performance of the Hamner Theater’s workshop production of Stanley Ann on March 1 at 8 pm.

The 70-minute one-woman show is directed by the Hamner’s Artistic Director Boomie Pedersen and performed by Kate Adamson.  Mike Kindle’s script draws on multiple sources to create an unsparing view of  one woman’s incredible journey from a naive college student to a respected expert in native crafts and development of micro-finance.  The performance will be at WTA’s Gateway at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro. A feedback session with the actor and director will follow.

The Hamner Theater’s workshop production of Stanley Ann is a work in progress, presented by special arrangement with the Playwright and Miss-Yng Pictures.  The goal is to test and imporve the play in preparation for a future premiere in a major theatre.  The audience’s participation and feedback is a valuable port of the process.

Stanley Ann tells the story of a woman who marries two foreigners of different races when that was still illegal in many states. She becomes the wife of a corrupt civil servant in Indonesia raising two children during a brutal dictatorship. She later earns a Ph.D. in anthropology and works to empower women in Indonesia and all over the world as one of the developers of micro-finance. Whether you like Obama as president or not, this play will make you think, feel, and wonder. (Of course, if you think Obama was born in Kenya, this play’s probably not for you.)

The Hamner Theatre is known for its development of new plays, many of which have gone on to premiere’s in Washington, D.C., New York City and other cities.  The Hamner and WTA’s Gateway will offer additional opportunities for audiences to be part a play’s development during the 2013 Spring season.

Tickets for Stanley Ann are $10 in advance and $12 on the evening of performance. They are available online at www.wtagateway.com or by calling 540-943-9999.
