The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library‘s “Lunch and Learn” series will present Meg Heubeck with “Taking the “Dis” Out of Civil Discourse: Rebuilding Democracy” on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Participants are welcome to bring lunch or a snack to the WWPL Archives and Research Center Building, 235 E. Beverley St., Staunton, and learn how they can make a different in political discourse.
The workshop will examine the effects of political polarization, misinformation and disinformation on political discourse. Participants will experiment with strategies for engaging in conversation with individuals who have opposing political views in order to bring our communities together and strengthen our democratic republic.
Civil discourse is necessary to daily life, and especially in an election year, Americans need to feel empowered on how to examine all of the facts and feel comfortable discerning all of the information available.
Participants who attend the free workshop will determine best practices to deal with misinformation, disinformation and how to have open dialogue. Civics is a cornerstone to WWPL’s mission to connect relevancy to the life and times of President Woodrow Wilson, and why educated voting matters.
