Virginia snapped its two-game losing streak in emphatic fashion, getting 20 points off the bench from Caitlin Weimar and 17 points and nine assists from Kymora Johnson in an 84-46 win over Pitt on Thursday in JPJ.
The only brief doubt in this one came after Pitt (8-13, 1-7 ACC) got the margin to two with a 10-2 run to open the second quarter.
From there, the ‘Hoos (14-5, 6-2 ACC) held the Panthers without a bucket for nearly seven minutes as they closed the half on a 16-2 run to go into the break ahead by a 38-22 score.
The Virginia defense held Pitt to 28.8 percent shooting on the night and forced 16 turnovers, which the Cavaliers converted into a 24-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
UVA also had a 50-20 advantage in points in the paint.
Next up: we wait for the weather, with Virginia scheduled to host NC State (13-6, 6-2 ACC) on Sunday at noon.
The forecast of up to a foot of snow in Central Virginia, and several inches of ice in the Raleigh area, on Saturday will almost certainly impact the schedule.
