UVA Notes

  • This is the third game this week for the Cavaliers who downed Coppin State, 55-41, on Sunday and American, 57-54, on Wednesday
  • This is the Cavaliers’ last game before taking an 11-day break for final exams
  • Junior guard Jocelyn Willoughby (East Orange, N.J.) matched her career high by soring 25 points on Wednesday night. It was the first 20-point performance by a Cavalier player this season and this first since J’Kyra Brown scored 24 points in an overtime victory against Indiana last season at the West Palm Invitational (12/18/17). The Cavaliers only had two 20-point performances last season
  • It was the first 25-point performance by a Cavalier since Willoughby scored 25 points in a WNIT game at Saint Joseph’s on St. Patrick’s Day during her freshman season (3/17/17)
  • Willoughby went 5-of-7 from three-point range against American. She now leads the conference in three-point shooting percentage, making 54.5 percent of her attempts (18-of-33). She went into that game shooting 36.1 percent (ranking fourth)
  • Willoughby and sophomore guard Brianna Tinsley (Madison, Va.) have each made 18 three-pointers this season (tied for 12th in the conference)
  • Willoughby has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games and now leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.4 points per game
  • Junior forward Lisa Jablonowski (Ernster, Luxembourg) had a career-high 13 rebounds against American. It was the second time in her career that she had the lone team-high for rebounds (previously had a team-high eight against Florida State her freshman season) and the first time that she was the leading rebounder in a game for both teams in a game
  • Jablonowski averaged 3.0 rebounds per game coming off the bench in the first five games of the season. Since moving into the starting lineup four games ago, she is averaging 8.25 rebounds per game
  • Virginia has outrebounded its opponent in all but two games this season (Central Michigan/Michigan State)
