Winter is finally here: Massanutten Resort to open ski area Wednesday

AFP

massanuttenMassanutten Resort announced that it will open its Ski Area this Wednesday. Skiing and snowboarding will be available from 9am-9pm. The Resort is hoping that snow tubing will follow with a mid-day Wednesday opening.

Kenny Hess, Massanutten’s Ski Area Director, reports, “We may have gotten a late start, but we are ready. There are so many new improvements at our ski area this year; we are ready to show them off.”

Some of those improvements include a massive 5,000 sq. ft. deck expansion off of the ski lodge that is home to the area’s newest après ski hot spot, Base Camp. Base Camp is an umbrella bar concept, providing guests an outdoor, heated dining experience with a slope-side view.

You also can’t miss the new 13,000 square-foot Snow Sports Learning Center which will serve as the new home for the popular Mountain Cruiser Children’s Snow Sports program.

In addition, the ski lodge has undergone a facelift, with expanded seating and the Grab-N-Go Café on the first floor, along with renovated restrooms, a fresh coat of paint, and new carpeting.

Look for improvements on the mountain too, thanks to the purchase of additional snowmaking equipment and a powerful new Pisten Bully “Park Pro” snow grooming tractor plus the installation of a new Tube Park conveyor lift and expanded snow tube lanes.

Massanutten is hoping to have the following slopes open for their Wednesday opening: Geronimo, Nutten-To-It, Southern Comfort, Lower Showtime, Diamond Jim, with the Easy Street Terrain Park following on Thursday.

Ski area rates, hours, specials, and snow conditions can be found at massresort.com. News and events are posted daily on the Resort’s Facebook page.
