More winter: 5 inches of snow possible Tuesday

Another day, another Winter Storm Watch from the National Weather Service, this one forecasting five inches or more of snow for a wide area encompassing the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia.

snow-plow-headerThe forecast is calling for precipitation to begin possibly as sleet in the predawn hours Tuesday before changing to snow through the early afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 20s to around 30 for the duration of the event.

The storm will be in and out pretty quick, but there is potential for 1-2 inches of snow per hour for a 2-4 hour period from daybreak to the late morning on Tuesday.
