Oct. 3: ‘Let’s Get It On!’
The Wayne Theatre will host an event featuring covers of the timeless music of Marvin Gaye on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The show: “Let’s Get It On! A Night with Jackie’s Boy.”
Headlined by Grammy Award-winning songwriter, recording artist, and performer Jackie’s Boy, “Let’s Get It On!” celebrates the unforgettable songs of Marvin Gaye while paying tribute to the artists and music that defined the Motown sound.
Jackie’s Boy has built an impressive career as a performer and one of the music industry’s most accomplished songwriters, with songwriting credits including hits recorded by Flo Rida, Madonna, Chris Brown, Sean Kingston, Justin Bieber, Johnny Gill and Charlie Wilson.
His work on Madonna’s “Revolver (Remix)” earned a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
Oct. 10: ‘Dead Wrong: A Miscast Concert’
Presented as part of the Wayne Theatre’s HalloWAYNE programming, “Dead Wrong: A Miscast Concert,” set for Saturday, Oct. 10, gives performers the opportunity to step completely outside their usual casting and take on musical theatre roles they might never otherwise have the chance to perform.
The premise is simple: put the right actors in all the wrong roles.
Miscast concerts have become a favorite concept among musical theatre performers and audiences because they remove the usual expectations surrounding age, gender, character type, vocal type, appearance, and traditional casting.
For one evening, performers can choose material because they love it, connect with it, or have always wanted the opportunity to sing it.
Oct. 16: ‘Forever Simon & Garfunkel’
The tribute show “Forever Simon & Garfunkel” comes to the Wayne Theatre on Friday, Oct. 16.
Celebrating the enduring legacy of Simon & Garfunkel, this acclaimed tribute concert recreates the remarkable harmonies, memorable melodies, and legendary songs that helped define an era of American music.
Concertgoers will enjoy favorites including “The Sound of Silence,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Mrs. Robinson,” “The Boxer,” “Homeward Bound,” “Cecilia,” “Hazy Shade of Winter,” I Am a Rock,” “Feeling Groovy,” and more.
Oct. 30-31: The Last Passenger: Ghost Stories of the Shenandoah Valley
The Wayne Theatre and Virginia Scenic Railway are bringing the ghost stories, folklore and darker history of the Shenandoah Valley aboard a moving train this fall with The Last Passenger: Ghost Stories of the Shenandoah Valley, presented Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31.
The immersive theatrical dining experience will depart from the Virginia Scenic Railway station in Staunton at 4 p.m. each day and will feature professional actors from the Wayne Theatre’s acclaimed ReperTOURy group performing aboard a vintage train as it travels through the Virginia countryside.
Designed specifically for the setting, The Last Passenger draws from true stories, regional folklore, railroad disasters, mysterious deaths, and accounts that have endured through generations.
As the train moves through the Valley, the surrounding landscape becomes part of the experience, connecting the performance to the places and history that inspired the stories.
