The community is invited to a celebration of Juneteenth on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Constitution Park in Waynesboro.
Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, and dates to June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas, to announce to locals that the Civil War had ended two months earlier, and that those enslaved had been freed.
This year’s celebration will be special with Gov. Ralph Northam having declared Juneteenth a state holiday.
Join the community celebration for an evening of history, food and fun with speakers, dancers, songs, and voter registration/restoration.
Please wear a mask and bring your own chair.
