Waynesboro SWAT raid leads to drugs, wanted person

Chris Graham

The Waynesboro Police Department arrested two Waynesboro men after a SWAT raid Tuesday night at an apparent drug flophouse.

As part of an ongoing narcotics investigation, members of the Department’s SWAT Team and Special Operations Division executed a search warrant at 200 Dogwood Street on May 26 at 10:30 p.m.   Inside the residence, the officers detained seven adults.  Two of them, Frederick Odale McCarthy, 39 years old, and Dakota Anthony Campbell, 18 years old, were arrested.  Several controlled substances, including cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and prescription pills and a firearm were recovered.

The Special Operations Division began an investigation after receiving multiple complaints from neighbors that said the house appeared to be a hang-out for drug users.  Firearms and drug distribution charges are pending against another person who was present at the scene.

McCarthy was wanted from Rockingham County and the city of Richmond on the following charges:

  • Two counts of probation violations (Rockingham County)
  • Failure to Pay Child Support (Richmond).

Campbell faces one felony count of Possession of Methamphetamine stemming from the raid.

Campbell is free on bond.  McCarthy is being held pending transport.
