The Waynesboro Police Department has made the largest crack cocaine seizure in city history as the result of search warrant executed at a city hotel yesterday.
On April 13 at approximately 1 p.m., members of the Department’s Special Operations Division, joined by members of the United States Marshals Services, raided a room at the Quality Inn, 640 West Broad Street, and found more than a pound and a half of cocaine.
The cocaine was in the process of being cooked into crack and bagged for individual sale. The drugs have an estimated street value of approximately $75,000. Along with the narcotics was an extensive pile of evidence associated with the packaging and trafficking of cocaine. Officers also seized several sets of digital scales, cooking dishes, plastic baggies, baking soda and $5,400 in cash.
The one individual that detectives have currently linked to the operation, Kelvin Ja-ray Sease, 24 years old of Harrisonburg, was not present when officers arrived. Nonetheless, he is wanted on one felony charge of Distribution of Cocaine.
Although Sease has been a long-time target of the Special Operations Division in an ongoing narcotics investigation, officers initially went to the hotel on another case. The cocaine seizure was actually a fortunate byproduct of the intensive search by both local law enforcement and the Marshal Service for Shaquan Wilson, the wanted subject from the shooting in Staunton last week.
The officers had been searching various locations around Waynesboro since before dawn. The results of those searches led police to the hotel in the mid-morning. Evidence was found in a room that led police to obtain a search warrant. Officers determined Sease paid for the room using a false name.
The drugs have been sent to the Department of Forensic Science for analysis. If lab results confirm that he had more than 500 grams of crack cocaine, Sease faces the enhanced penalty of a five year minimum mandatory sentence. Sease is being considered armed and dangerous while he remains at large because he has been seen in the company of Shaquan Wilson and the weapon from the Staunton shooting has not yet been recovered.
Sease is a black male, 6’1” and 185 pounds.
