Waynesboro Police seek help solving smash and grab, credit-card fraud

The Waynesboro Police Department is requesting assistance in identifying two individuals involved in a smash and grab car burglary and credit card fraud incident that occurred this past weekend.

On Sunday at 9:30 a.m., a 27-year-old Waynesboro woman went to walk her dog at Coyner Springs Park on Lyndhurst Road.  While she was away from her vehicle, the two suspects smashed the window to her 2007 Honda CRV and took her purse which was on the front seat.

When the victim returned fifteen minutes later and discovered the burglary, she immediately notified the Police Department and credit card company.  However her credit card company informed her that her Target Credit Card had already been used for $530 at the Waynesboro Target Store on Town Center Drive.  The assailants purchased five $100 pre-paid Visa or MC cards using the victim’s card.   A white female and a black male are seen on surveillance footage making the purchase at Target.  Also, a silver mini-van with yellow tags is seen dropping them off and picking them up.

At 1:30 p.m., the pre-paid gift cards are being used in Fredericksburg, VA and continue being used in Richmond for various purchases at different stores.

Anyone with information in this incident is asked to call the Waynesboro Police Department at (540) 942-6675 or Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers at 1(800)322-2017.  Information given to Crime Stoppers may be given anonymously.  Callers with information that lead to an arrest in this case are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
