Update: Thursday, 3:16 p.m. All charges against Daryl Wayne Reese of Waynesboro have been dropped after further investigation by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office revealed that a robbery purportedly perpetrated by Reese did not occur as originally reported.

Reese has subsequently been released from custody, per a release from the sheriff’s office Thursday afternoon.

A warrant for filing a false report has been obtained on the reporting party, whose name is not being released at this time.

Editorial comment: it should be released.

This guy’s name got dragged through the mud for a false report.

First report: March 15, 8:02 p.m. A Waynesboro man is in custody in connection with a March 10 robbery in Augusta County.

Daryl Wayne Reese also faces a charge of transporting a firearm by a convicted felon in the case, and he is currently being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
