Waynesboro filibusters Senators, 7-4

wlogo2A three-run seventh-inning single by Patrick Mazeika broke a 4-4 tie, and Waynesboro held on for a 7-4 win over the visiting Aldie Senators Tuesday night.

Aldie led 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh when the Generals loaded the bases with one out off reliever Tyler Soucie, who hit Tyler Bocock (sophomore, Stetson) on the first pitch to tie the game at 4-4. Mazeika (freshman, Stetson) worked the count to 2-1 before taking the next pitch deep to right field. The ball appeared to be on its way out, but hit the top of the fence before bounding back into play, scoring Julius Gaines (sophomore, Florida International), JoJo Woods (junior, Central Florida) and Bocock to clear the bases.

David Spinosa (sophomore, Columbia) pitched a scoreless eighth and handed the ball off to Terrance Dedrick (junior, Auburn), who earned his first save of the 2013 VBL season with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Kyle Allen (sophomore, Butler) pitched an inning and a third of perfect relief to pick up the win.

The win is the fifth in a row for Waynesboro, which improves to 14-14 on the season.

The Generals head to Front Royal Wednesday.
